In-game Economy

Guild of Guardians doubles down on the strategy elements of the game. As such, we focus extensively on the in-game economy to increase its depth and strategy. Below are the key highlights:

Leaderboards

Leaderboards are an important economic system in Guild of Guardians and one of the key sources of emissions for the $GOG tokens within the game. Players will compete in weekly leaderboards events in the Endless Dungeon Modes which challenge the players’ ability to compose a squad that can overcome the various dungeon challenges.

Leaderboards will have various tiers where players will get promotions/demotions based on their performance. Leaderboards will be further subdivided in groups so that players may expect to compete against their peers. All leaderboard participants will receive a variety of rewards, with some participants receiving web3 rewards in the form of NFTs issued by Immutable, and/or $GOG tokens which are distributed by Guardians Guild Limited.

Guardian Enlightenment System:

There will be tiers of upgrades for Guardians in addition to their level. The enlightenment system will require players to sacrifice specific Guardians (or types of Guardians) in order to “enlighten” the Guardian. This unlocks new skills and increases their potential, simultaneously creating the need for players to strategise their optimal progression. See below for an early example.

Free-to-play Guardians of all rarities:

Players will have access to Guardians of all rarities. This is done by allowing these Guardians to start as web2, with the option to use a Minting Resource to convert their Guardians into an NFT and gain additional bonuses. Free-to-play players will have the opportunity to obtain this Minting Resource via successfully accomplishing challenging activities.

Note: Founders and Early-adopter Guardians (Guardian NFTs sold in GOG’s pre-launch sales) by default, start with more stars than non-founders Guardians/or have less onerous upgrade requirements. This is to ensure that Founder’s Guardians have equal opportunity to progress and advance despite their limited supply.

Guardian Radiance:

Web2 Guardians that are obtained via gameplay or IAP start without any Radiance. Players can transform these Guardians into ‘Radiant’ versions primarily by amassing the previously mentioned Minting Resource. While this resource can be obtained by fulfilling in-game activities, it is planned that the rate of generation will be significantly enhanced by holding $GOG tokens. New methods of transforming Guardians into ‘Radiant’ versions may be introduced in special events.

Once a player has minted a Guardian Radiant, that Guardian is now a NFT, the player is now able to trade this Guardian with other players. Radiant Guardians also have special perks and gameplay features that are unlocked.

Radiance can also be increased as another avenue for progression, to do this requires a valuable resource known as “Radiant Souls” which may only be obtained when sacrificing a Radiant Guardian. By ascending the Guardian’s Radiance further, the player can further expand the versatility of their Guardian.

Both a Guardian’s Enlightenment and Radiance are coded into the asset’s metadata and can be transferred to other players. In addition to this there may be other attributes and special cosmetic features that are unlocked via the Enlightenment and Radiance systems. These mechanics are under active development and will be shared with the community after adequate testing has been completed.

Dynamic Minting Costs:

The amount of Minting Resource required to transform these guardians into “Radiant” variants will be dynamically determined based on the number of Radiant Guardians of that type that already exist. The more Radiant Guardians that have been produced the higher the amount of Minting Resource is required to ascend the next one.

This Dynamic Minting Cost aims to manage the supply of Radiant Guardians in an automated and impartial manner. Guardians of different rarity tier and/or metadata traits may have different cost functions associated with them. For example highly desirable Legendary Guardians may have steep cost functions, whereas more Common Guardians may have more gentle cost functions. This system allows players to decide on whether it is worthwhile to ascend the next Radiant Guardian or whether it’s worthwhile to purchase it on the marketplace.

Material Merge:

Players obtain resources in Dungeons that are used in Merge gameplay, here players progressively merge these materials into higher quality variants which are then used in the game’s crafting and upgrade systems. There are also unique items such as Factory items and progression systems that can generate variable rewards in this system.

Equipment Crafting:

The outcome of the merge gameplay is a variety of materials which are a component to equipment crafting. In addition to materials, players may also need to uncover rare Equipment Blueprints which can be used to craft powerful equipment. Players will need to be strategic with their resources in order to ensure that they have gathered the right materials and crafted the optimal pieces of equipment needed to advance their progression.

Equipment Upgrades:

Once a player has outfitted their Guardians with equipment they are expected to continue to refine and improve their gear via the game’s equipment upgrade loops, doing so allows the equipment to unlock new stat boosts and enhanced attributes. However not all equipment are created equal, higher quality crafted equipment has greater maximum potential when upgrading, so players should be on the lookout for upgrades while exploring the dungeons of Elderym.

Overall the goal of the above changes is to enhance the depth and accessibility of the game economy.

The Altar of Sacrifice

The Altar of Sacrifice (“the Altar”) is a web-based NFT minting system, which provides a fun and interactive way for developers to offer recipes to players to rebalance the game economy. During Altar events players can collect and combine recipes and choose to offer them up as sacrifices in return for exciting rewards and opportunities.

These events will operate periodically but only for a limited duration per event. The timing and duration of these events will be announced to the game’s community via social media channels, where clues for the next recipe may be dropped. These recipes may ask players to be on the lookout for specific metadata traits and/or collect certain types of NFTs. In addition to NFTs each mint performed in the Altar has a $GOG denominated cost. This cost will comprise a primary minting fee plus a discretionary minting fee subject to balance considerations.
